Increasing Your Energy — The Journey to 80 and Beyond
What If You Could Choose How You Age?
What if aging with energy wasn’t just a theory but something we could build and protect every day?
If you’re like me, you probably grew up hearing “Do as I say, not as I do.” BUT when it comes to aging with vitality, I believe it’s the opposite. “Do as I do.”
Energy doesn't come from wishful thinking. It comes from daily choices. This blog is about how to keep your energy — not just for today, but for a future where you feel strong, clear-headed, and capable, all the way to 80 and beyond.
Here are three simple pillars I live by and share with clients who want to feel more alive as they age.
Pillar 1: Lifestyle Choices that Build Energy
Energy is built through action. Sitting and waiting for it to return doesn’t work — trust me, I’ve tried!
Move Every Day. Our bodies are designed to move. It doesn’t have to be marathons — walking, gardening, stretching, and strength work keep muscles and joints healthy.
Strength Matters. Strength training helps prevent muscle loss. The aim is to become anti fragile.
Sleep is Non-Negotiable. Consistent bedtime, cool dark room, and less screen time before bed make a big difference.
Natural Energy. Morning sunlight resets your body clock, supports Vitamin D, and lifts energy.
Stay Connected. People give us energy. Staying social reduces loneliness and boosts health.
Pillar 2: Nutrition for Energy and Longevity
What you eat tells your body what to do — create energy or store fat.
Balance Blood Sugar. Whole foods (protein, healthy fats, veggies) stabilize energy. Processed foods crash it.
Protein & Muscle. Protein (meat, eggs, fish) builds muscles and keeps you strong as you age. Most over-55s don’t eat enough.
Stay Hydrated. Water (with a pinch of salt if needed) keeps energy up, especially in heat or on low-carb diets.
Pillar 3: Mindset and Emotional Well-being
Mindset drives energy.
Your Stories Matter. If you think, "I'm tired," you feel tired. Try asking, "What’s one thing I can do to feel better today?"
Calm Your Nervous System. Stress drains energy. Breathing, meditation, and time in nature calm the body.
HeartMath Tools. I use their breathing and appreciation exercises daily to reset:
HeartMath Tools & ExercisesHave Purpose. Purpose fuels energy. Whether it’s family, hobbies, or helping others — it keeps you engaged and active. I say yes to walking, biking, and playing with my grandies!
The Journey to 80 — Aging with Energy and Intention
Aging is inevitable — but how we age is a choice.
Every day I ask: “What will my 80-year-old self thank me for?”
Some days it's a meditative walk or yoga. Others, making seed crackers or keto chocolate (instead of processed snacks). I choose calm, movement, and nourishment as daily medicine, and I make space for real connection.
Final Thought — You Get to Choose
If you’re feeling tired, worn out, or like life’s passing you by — you can change that.
Start small. Pick one thing from each pillar:
✅ A daily walk or movement.
✅ Add more protein and water.
✅ A moment of calm, deep breathing.
Your future self — and your energy — will thank you.
